Selling Scrap Plastic & Creating Sustainable Supply Chain | Vanden Recycling

A common reality within plastic manufacturing is overstock. Also referred to as redundant stock, overruns, out of date stock, old stock and warehouse clearance.

These may be items that are surplus to requirement and of no use due to reasons such as:

  • Misprints and mistakes
  • Changes to a brand
  • Changes in client orders
  • The end of a client relationship

Your company processes can’t stop while you deal with redundant stock, nor can the rate of manufacture slow. But if you don’t deal with redundant stock the reality is you will find yourself with valuable floor space being wasted, and everyday operations becoming compromised.

Want to know the value of your redundant stock? You can submit photos of your redundant stock to our expert team. Get in touch and submit images using our Redundant Stock Recycling page.

Redundant stock isn’t waste

Just because the items at hand are no longer being used for their intended purposes, it doesn’t mean they aren’t valuable.

Overruns can generate a return or reduced disposal costs when stored and handled in the right way.

By recycling redundant stock, rather than simply disposing of it, you can contribute to closing the loop and creating a sustainable supply chain – potentially generating revenue or at the very least reducing costs.

To put this into simple terms – you may not have to be charged to dispose of redundant stock – you could generate a revenue stream by recycling it. This is dependent on the type of material, if it has been kept pure and how it is packed.

Secure destruction prevents brand damage

It might be that you have previously opted to send redundant, plastic stock or warehouse clearance items to landfill rather than to be recycled because you wanted to protect your brand.

However, we offer secure destruction for branded items when required. This service means your brand will be protected from re-entering the marketplace, while you actively contribute to building a sustainable supply chain.

To underpin the importance of taking sustainability seriously, a survey by Unilever found that a third of consumers choose to buy from sustainable brands. It was also found that there was an estimated opportunity of €966 billion for those brands that communicated their sustainability efforts and credentials, proving there are multi-faceted benefits to recycling redundant plastic stock.

How to evaluate your redundant stock

In order to determine the value, recyclability and level of contamination of your redundant items there are a number of areas for you to make note of:

  • What is the net weight of the stock?
  • Are there any labels on the items?
  • If so, what are the labels made out of?
  • Is the stock packed in boxes?
  • Is there film in the box?

By taking and sending us the following photos, we can form a more accurate idea of the type and volume of polymer you have. The following photos are required to help our team make efficient and informed decisions:

  • Photos of redundant stock stacked and packed
  • Photos from inside the packed boxes

Ongoing storage solutions

When it comes to storage options for redundant stock and overruns, there are number of ways you can save valuable floorspace and maintain high health and safety standards while also storing a large volume of old stock.

We have plastic fold down and large metal stillages that can be stacked up to four high, offering a solution that reduces the time and storage space devoted to redundant stock.

This video explains our storage options in more detail.
